On Wednesday, April 25, 2018, the sixth annual Nigerian Entertainment Conference will take place in Lagos to discuss issues pertaining to the entertainment industry in Nigeria.
This year, the focus will be on technology and how Nigerian entertainers can take advantage of the possibilities available.
The Chairman of the conference, Ayeni Adekunle says ‘Everything that’s transforming the entertainment and creative industries in Europe, Asia and America is potentially available to Nigeria, nay, Africa. Technology is already helping us fix payments, dating, banking, transportation, and even governance. It’s time to take a look at entertainment’.
Although the entertainment industry is expected to be worth $2.8 billion by 2019, it still pales in comparison to what obtains abroad- Hollywood and the American creative industry, for example, contribute no less than $500 billion to the US economy.
Tech-based companies such as Netflix, Amazon, Facebook, Snapchat, Shazam, Tidal, Deezer, Spotify, and many more are coming forth to innovate creation, distribution and monetisation, while Nigeria still largely stuck with using old methods to solve new problems.
Five thousand people, including industry insiders, artistes, label execs, IT experts and many others- are expected to attend the event at Landmark Centre on April 25 and will be broadcast online and on television to a global audience of 10 million people.
Registration starts on January 30 and the lineup of panellist to follow later.
