Story highlights

As we all probably know by now, Nigerian actress and fashionista Mercy Aigbe recently turned 40 on the 1st of January 2018 and the event which was supposed to be a happy day was turned out controversial.

One of the dresses which she wore for her birthday photo shoot was said to be for a bride who cried out after she recognised her dress when Mercy Aigbe posted pictures from the photo shoot on her Instagram.

The issue lingered on and on with the bride calling out the designer and the actress for ruining her wedding day. The designer, Maryiam Elisha of  RikatobyME apologised later, claiming that it was a mistake caused by a dispatch error, but Mercy didn’t say anything as she went to her normal activities.

However, Mercy Aigbe today finally decided to talk about the event as the controversy came too early in the year. She claims that she never had any personal meeting with the designer as she paid a stylist who arranged about 4 different dresses for the shoot.

She also aplogised to the bride in her message and concluded that she has spoken with her lawyers to look into the matter and see how best to approach it from a legal point of view without festering an already open wound.

I have followed events as they unfold following a particular dress I wore for a photoshoot. First, I must say that I sincerely sympathise with the bride as this situation is painful, unfortunate and regrettably avoidable. I hired and paid Seun @styledbyseun for the photoshoot as a stylist and got four dresses for the shoot. Seun and I were unaware that one of the dresses was meant for someone else. I am embarrassed that the designer was not professional enough in handling events leading to this moment. It is also painful that a bride is made to go through what the bride has been made to go through. I have reached out to both the stylist and designer (whom I have never met nor HIRED directly) to express my displeasure. I have instructed my lawyer to look into this and see how best to approach this from a legal point of view without festering an already open wound. Thanks.
