Regina Askia‘s teenage daughter, Teesa, is proving that it’s never too early to pursue your dreams with her steadfast pursuit of her budding modelling career.

The 15-year-old, who resides in the US with the rest of her family, participated in the just concluded Miss New York Teen USA pageant.

The contest, which took place in New York, USA, saw 59 other models vie for the coveted position, with Teesa representing Staten Island.

Although she did not take the crown, proud mama, Regina, who also started off as a young model, winning the Miss Unilag contest at just 21, took to Facebook to celebrate her amazing daughter, who she later took to have dinner at some fancy restaurant where she treated her to some well-deserved steak.

She wrote: ‘Ok so it wasn’t my princess but placement and recognition is not a bad thing. The experience of being in such a major competition counts. ” Hm hmm!! Yes Mom, okay. Can I have some steak now? And that’s how Teesa rounded up her day.’

A few hours before the event started, Regina had shared the news of her daughter’s participation, writing, ‘Our daughters are taking the world by storm. We wish them all the luck and every support as they step up on the world stage to show their talents and share their gifts. Beauty pageants today go way beyond just being pretty, smiling and waving for world peace they come with college scholarship opportunities, product endorsements and promotional campaigns.

‘You must be able to stand in front of an auditorium as a skilled public speaker, articulate a message, state and defend your cause with decorum, walk with grace and elegance, and show your fit body which you have worked on through great diet choices and grueling hours on track and at the gym over months. You must be personable, be able to work a crowd .

‘Some 30 years and 30 pounds ago I stepped out on the same platform and so many doors of opportunity opened up taking me from print to television advertisements endorsement and of course stardom. That is how a brown-eyed girl from Calabar became a major player and I have not looked back since. Today I wish my daughter Ms Teesa Williams as she vies for Miss New York Teen 2017 ( under the umbrella of Miss Universe as Staten Island Teen) and Miss Unoaku Anyadike, “Most beautiful girl in Nigeria 2016”, as she represents Nigeria at the Ms Universe pageant.’
