It has been all about the world cup! The just-concluded football competition which took place in Russia made sure to snatch the attention of everyone and dominated mainstream media.

From its opening game on June 14 to yesterday’s final game which ended in favour of France, the competition and other things related remained a trending topic on Twitter NG. The fuss was so great that the 2018 BET Awards which favoured Nigeria’s own pop star Davido in the Best International Act category failed to out-trend the games.

Dear artistes, please don’t bother putting out new music or an album until the #WorldCup is over.

Visibility will be likely poor because the interest of many is directed towards football.

As this writer rightly noted at the start of the competition, Nigeria is a football-crazy nation and the world cup was sure to buy-over the attention of the masses, therefore, causing other forms of entertainment to become of secondary interest, including music. Throughout the duration of the competition, a number of solid records were released, but as you’ve guessed, they received poor visibility.

Nigerian international pop star Wizkid and UK rap heavyweight Skepta released their first solo collaboration, Maleek Berry dropped his first single for 2018, Kizz Daniel and Wizkid blessed fans with their long-awaited collaboration, Ill Bliss enlisted Olamide for a new hip-hop joint, formerly Babyboi, singer Kamal dropped his debut single under a new moniker, Runtown made his 2018 debut with Unleash etc.
